For decision-makers short on time.

  • 01Without a written SLA with clear response times, there is no way to enforce delivery.
  • 02Confirm continuous monitoring, tested backups and out-of-hours coverage.
  • 03Prefer a provider that works directly with you, without subcontracting.
  • 04The lowest price can hide fewer guarantees; ask for references.

A badly chosen IT partner is discovered late: on the day the server goes down at seven in the evening and nobody answers, or when the backup that should exist does not. The choice is made before you sign. Demand the SLA on paper, check whether monitoring is continuous and find out who handles backups and who answers out of hours. The ten questions below put any MSP proposal to the test.

Which questions should I ask before signing?

  1. SLA — is it written down, with fixed response times?
  2. Monitoring — is the infrastructure watched continuously, or do they only react when someone calls?
  3. Backups — who runs them, who tests them and how often?
  4. Out of hours — is there cover after the office closes, if operations require it?
  5. Security — how are access and data protection managed?
  6. Subcontracting — is the contract with whoever does the work, or are there third parties in between?
  7. Critical incident — on average, how long does the response take?
  8. Point of contact — is there a named person, or a different engineer on every call?
  9. Evolution — does the contract provide for price or service reviews over time?
  10. References — can I speak to current clients?

Frequently asked questions

Which question carries the most weight?

The SLA. Without clear, written response times, there is no way to demand that the service is delivered.

Can I ask for contacts at other clients?

You can and should. It is standard practice, and a provider confident in its work provides them without hesitation.

What should I ask about security?

How access is controlled, how GDPR is complied with and how regularly backups are made and tested.

Is the cheapest proposal the best?

Rarely, without further analysis. Compare the SLA, cover during holidays and sick leave and response times: the lowest price can mean fewer guarantees.

Does changing IT provider mean downtime?

No. With a rigorous survey of the current infrastructure, the transition is planned without cutting support to the team.

Already have a proposal on the table?

We will give you a second opinion, with no commitment. DataRoad works only under contract, directly with the end client, with a written SLA and immediate response times. One Step Ahead of IT.
