A managed IT department gives a company what a lone engineer cannot: continuity through holidays and sick leave, a fixed cost and someone accountable for the whole. DataRoad - IT Services and Consulting, a premium IT partner in Portugal, provides the complete IT function — helpdesk, networks, servers, cloud and security — with an account manager, written processes and a fixed monthly fee. It is the IT Unlimited contract model, for companies with 10 or more workstations, including international companies with offices in Portugal, that want proper IT without building it from scratch, with support in English, Spanish and French.
What the company gains from the managed model
- Prevention Monitoring detects the incident before anyone feels it.
- Predictability A fixed fee, with no bank of hours and none of the conflict of interest it creates.
- Single accountability Network, security, cloud and workstations with the same point of contact, with a name and phone number.
- Control Inventory, credentials and history documented and always available to the client.
Why is paying by the hour more expensive?
Because the supplier bills more when there are more problems. It is not bad faith, it is the model: prevention is of no interest to whoever charges for the intervention. And the company pays twice — for the engineer and for its employees' downtime.
In a managed IT department, every incident becomes a cost to the supplier. Its interest is that nothing fails. The detailed comparison — the real cost of an in-house engineer, holidays, sick leave and four models side by side — is in IT Unlimited compared with retainers, hour banks and outsourcing.

Questions about the managed IT department
How does it differ from a traditional retainer?
A traditional retainer buys engineer time. A managed IT department buys infrastructure availability, with monitoring, prevention and a fee that does not rise with the problems.
Are we locked in to the supplier?
No. Documentation, inventory and credentials belong to the client and are always available. If you want to change, you take everything with you.
How long does the transition take?
Usually two to four weeks.
Is there support outside business hours?
Yes, on the Premium 365 plan, the only one with 24/7 monitoring and support, including nights, weekends and public holidays.
What size of company is it for?
From 10 workstations to operations with hundreds; the plan adjusts to the number of workstations and how critical they are.
Is there a lock-in?
No. There is no lock-in and no set-up fee; the contract is annual, with automatic renewal and 60 days' notice to terminate.
