One more switch, one more access point, one more server propped against the last. It holds until the day it does not — and nobody knows any more which system depends on which cable.

Sites kilometres apart

Head office in Braga, production or warehouse in another municipality. Getting those sites to share systems securely and quickly is decided in the network design, not in the shop.

Audits that arrive from the customer

Suppliers of electronics or automotive components receive security requirements from the end customer: first a questionnaire, increasingly an audit.

And then there are the software houses: they know what they want and spot immediately when the network is the bottleneck. Demanding clients. We like them that way.

First, you decide what must be accessible from everywhere and what should stay at each site. The rest is engineering: secure tunnels between premises, a firewall with rules per segment and a single console, so maintenance does not triple.

We did exactly this on an IT network spread across several branches nationwide, all managed from one point.

Fibre. On sites with several buildings, copper cannot cover the distance, and the alternative is usually a misaligned wireless bridge that drops in the first storm. We install fibre optics between buildings, intermediate racks, CAT6 or CAT6A to the workstations, and deliver the certification of every point in writing.

Fibre costs more on the day of installation and less in each of the following ten years. It is a design decision, not a budget one.

By measuring on site. Metal, high ceilings and machinery deflect the signal in ways no floor plan anticipates. We choose antennas by type of space, power access points via PoE from the rack and isolate production equipment on its own network. Our own team on the ground, in Braga and throughout the Minho.

At Magnelusa we installed the network for an industrial unit. At Sten we supported the network expansion of a company with offices in more than one country. Growing without rebuilding everything and running several sites as one: these are the Minho's two challenges.
