In the Algarve, a network that fails in August costs more than one that fails in any other month of the year. That is why the managed networks and IT that DataRoad - IT Services and Consulting provides for businesses in Faro and the Algarve follow a different calendar: permanent remote monitoring, infrastructure tuned before the season starts and site visits that are planned and grouped. We serve hotels, holiday rentals, restaurants, retail and tour operators from our head office in Alfragide, with support nationwide and remote, on-site and telephone support, always under an IT Unlimited contract.

Why is high season the biggest IT risk in the Algarve?

Because that is when the revenue comes in. A hotel in Albufeira or a restaurant chain in Faro uses the same servers, bookings, invoicing, payments and security rules as a Lisbon company. What changes is that revenue is concentrated in a few months, precisely when local engineers are overloaded.

  • A short window From spring to autumn there is no margin for downtime; works are done before opening.
  • Several sites Accommodation in one town, restaurants in another, a warehouse in a third, and the link between them is usually the weak point.
  • International guests Many devices at once demand segmentation, measured coverage and backup internet, whether 4G/5G or satellite.
  • Few people for everything Whoever handles IT is also on reception, at the till or on bookings; support has to work without depending on that person.

How do you manage a network well 280 km from Alfragide?

With data. We track servers, disks, backups and links with alerts designed to catch signs, not completed failures. A degraded disk spotted in April is replaced calmly; discovered in the middle of August, it shuts down operations. The vast majority of cases are resolved remotely, the same day.

Physical work — cabling, hardware replacement, surveys — is grouped into visits booked in advance. It is cheaper and more likely to leave everything closed off on site. The conditions for each visit are written into the contract from day one.

The question to ask an MSP that is far from you is not how long it takes to arrive, but how much it resolves without having to come. With proper monitoring, almost everything. Without it, every incident means a trip.

How we prepare an Algarve hotel's network

A single, well-closed works phase

Between closing and reopening there are only a few weeks, and every trip weighs on the cost. So the survey is done in a single visit, the design is closed before work starts and the structured cabling is carried out straight after, with all materials already on site. CAT6 or CAT6A depending on the building, fibre between blocks where copper will not reach, certification of every point at the end.

Wi-Fi sized for the peaks

Hotels, restaurants and retail with many simultaneous users need business wireless networks that withstand the rush and can be administered remotely. With centralised management we diagnose, adjust and update without leaving Alfragide, and keep site visits for what can only be done on the ground. Near the sea, we choose equipment and cable routes that resist humidity and salt.

A poorly built network in the Algarve always shows itself at the worst moment: in the height of summer. Doing it right first time and documenting every point is what makes remote management possible.

What changes in the first months of the contract?

  1. On-site diagnosis — one visit for inventory, measurement of the real state and a risk map.
  2. A solid base — backups with proven restores, active monitoring and secure remote access, which immediately cuts the need for site visits.
  3. Remote management — remote resolution with contracted deadlines and a report on every intervention.
  4. Planned presence — visits on a known calendar with grouped work, plus the on-site interventions provided for in the plan.

Frequently asked questions

Does DataRoad have an office in Faro?

No. The region is served from Alfragide, with remote monitoring and planned visits. We are clear about this because it determines what we can guarantee in the contract.

What happens if a server fails in the Algarve?

In most cases the problem is spotted by monitoring before it stops the business. For physical replacements, the contract sets the call-out time and any spare equipment kept on site, often the most sensible choice at this distance.

Cloud or an on-site server: what do you recommend?

It depends on the quality of the internet. With a reliable connection, the cloud greatly reduces site visits; without one, a well-monitored local server remains the safest option. We decide by measurement, not preference.

Do you build networks for hotels and resorts?

We do, including buildings with many rooms and many users, with materials suited to a marine environment and every point certified.

Do you accept one-off jobs in the Algarve?

No. We work only under IT Unlimited contracts, taking full responsibility for the client's environment, and we do not sell standalone equipment.

Where else we manage networks and IT

Shall we prepare for next season?

We survey your infrastructure and send a written IT Unlimited proposal with scope, call-out rules and monthly fee. Request a no-commitment proposal.
