Changing your IT partner in Portugal does not mean stopping the business. With a plan, the transition runs in parallel with what already works: a full survey, collection of credentials, gradual migration and closer support in the first weeks. At the end, passwords, licences, domain and data are in your company's hands, and the service runs on written SLAs. That is how DataRoad - IT Services and Consulting, a premium managed IT services provider in Portugal, handles every transition, including for international companies with offices in Portugal and support in English, Spanish and French.
How much does staying with the wrong supplier cost?
More than the move. The cost shows up in hours of downtime, unpredictable invoices and risk that nobody measures. These are the most common signs that it is time:
- Responses that take days Requesting support has become a task for your own team.
- Unpredictable invoices Every intervention is a new quote; the alternative is a fixed monthly fee for managed services.
- Undocumented infrastructure Nobody knows for sure what is installed, where the licences are or how a backup is restored.
- Dependence on one person One engineer's holiday becomes an operational risk.
- Zero visibility With no reports or history, you pay every month without being able to prove what you receive.
- Neglected security Backups never tested, updates overdue and no managed cybersecurity.
What if the current supplier holds the passwords?
The credentials, licences, domain and data belong to the company, not to the supplier. The transition includes a structured process for collecting credentials and documentation, which we carry out professionally with the previous supplier.
If they do not cooperate, the way forward remains open. We carry out the technical survey independently and a controlled reset of credentials, system by system, without stopping operations. It is methodical work, and we have done it many times.
What happens at each stage?
- Audit and survey — inventory of equipment, servers, licences, credentials, contracts and risks. This is where many companies find surprises.
- Transition plan — a schedule with named owners and out-of-hours windows where needed. A fixed objective: no downtime.
- Credentials and documentation — passwords, licences, domain, email, backups and configurations move into a digital vault your company can access.
- Gradual migration — monitoring, management and security come in alongside and are tested before any cut-over. Nothing is switched off until the alternative is working.
- Supported go-live — extra attention in the first weeks; users know the managed helpdesk channels from day one.

Any time, because the transition runs in parallel. If your current contract has a lock-in, we review the dates with you and prepare everything so the switch happens on the day it ends, with not a single day uncovered.
The duration depends on the size of the infrastructure and is usually a few weeks. The plan and dates are set during the initial audit and consultancy.

Frequently asked questions
How long does the transition take?
Usually a few weeks, depending on the size of the infrastructure. Dates and owners are in the plan from the start and operations never stop.
Could I lose data or emails?
No. Nothing is switched off until the alternative has been tested; backups are validated before migration and email migrates with its full history.
Do I have to speak to my current supplier?
No. We handle the technical communication with the previous supplier. All you need to do is give formal notice on the contract, and we will tell you how far in advance.
What if the current supplier does not cooperate?
We carry out the survey independently and a controlled reset of credentials, system by system. The company regains control of what is its own.
Does the transition have a cost?
It depends on the state of the infrastructure and what needs to be migrated. You receive a clear quote before going ahead.
