In 2019, STEN, a company headquartered in Barcelona with offices in Poland and Andorra, chose DataRoad - IT Services and Consulting to build the network infrastructure for its new office in Portugal. The project included around 18 wireless access points, rack installation and a fibre-optic link between the racks. The result was a space ready to work from day one, with consistent performance throughout the building.

Who STEN are
Since 1982, STEN has developed, manufactured and sold formwork systems for construction and civil engineering, with products already used on more than 350 million m². It is known for technical and functional innovation and is present in Spain, Poland, Andorra and, since this project, Portugal.

Why fibre between racks
When a building has more than one rack, the link between them determines the performance of the entire network. Fibre optics offers more bandwidth than copper and is immune to electromagnetic interference.
In an office with many devices on Wi-Fi, this makes the difference: traffic from every access point converges on the backbone, and a weak backbone becomes the bottleneck.
