DataRoad - IT Services and Consulting installed, configured and now manages a complete Cisco Meraki corporate network: an MX95 firewall with redundancy between internet operators, three 48-port MS-120-48 switches interconnected by fibre optics and five wireless access points. The entire infrastructure is managed from the Meraki Dashboard, in the cloud, and is under DataRoad's permanent supervision. The client gained stronger security, high performance and a network ready to grow.
Project inventory
| Component | Quantity | Role |
|---|---|---|
| Cisco Meraki MX95 firewall | 1 | Perimeter security, VPN and operator redundancy |
| Cisco Meraki MS-120-48 switch | 3 | Access network, 48 ports each, fibre backbone |
| Cisco Meraki access point | 5 | Business Wi-Fi throughout the office |
The firewall: Cisco Meraki MX95
The MX95 is a cloud-managed firewall for demanding business environments. It is what enables full redundancy between operators: if one connection fails, the company stays online.
Key specifications
- WAN 2 × 10 GbE SFP+, 2 × 2.5 GbE RJ45 (one with PoE) and 1 × USB for 4G/5G failover.
- LAN 4 × GbE RJ45 and 2 × 10 GbE SFP+.
- Performance 2 Gbps firewall throughput and 800 Mbps site-to-site VPN.
- Scale Up to 500 users.
- Unified security IDS/IPS, anti-malware, content filtering and threat management.
- Management Fully centralised in the Meraki Dashboard.
The network core: fibre-linked switches
The three MS-120-48 switches are interconnected by fibre optics. This backbone delivers speed, reduces latency, adds redundancy and makes it easier to segment the network as the company grows. Like the firewall, the switches are managed in the cloud. Find out more about network infrastructure and structured cabling.
Corporate Wi-Fi with five access points
The five Cisco Meraki access points were positioned to cover the whole office and support a high density of users, with automatic roaming, business-grade Wi-Fi security and real-time remote management. The result is a stable, fast wireless network with no blind spots. More in managed business Wi-Fi.
Meraki or UniFi?
DataRoad works with both platforms. Ubiquiti UniFi is the usual choice for offices, hotels and clinics, with no mandatory recurring licences; we currently manage more than 138 sites and 1,321 Ubiquiti devices. Cisco Meraki makes sense in larger installations, with several sites or advanced security requirements, as in this project.
