  • 01DataRoad recovers data from servers, RAID, NAS, workstations and ransomware-hit systems.
  • 02We always work on a block-level image; the original disk stays untouched.
  • 03Physical damage goes to a partner lab, coordinated and validated by DataRoad.

Lost data means invoices that cannot be issued, processes that stall and, often, legal obligations at risk. In business data recovery, it is the first hours that separate a scare from a permanent loss. DataRoad - IT Services and Consulting recovers information from servers, RAID arrays, NAS, workstations and ransomware-hit systems, always from a block-level image, and returns verified files to the infrastructure. It is a service reserved for IT Unlimited clients. On this page: what to do immediately, what we resolve, what goes to a lab and how to prevent a repeat.

What should you do before calling us?

  1. Cut power to the equipment — a failing disk that keeps spinning degrades and can overwrite what is recoverable. If you hear clicking or strange noises, switch off now.
  2. No recovery software on the disk itself — installing it writes data exactly where the blocks to be saved are.
  3. Avoid automatic repairs — chkdsk or "repair volume" on damaged sectors almost always makes things worse.
  4. With ransomware, isolate without switching off — take the machine off the network; do not pay or talk to the attackers before measuring the scope of the encryption and the state of the backups.

Which failures can we reverse?

SituationUsual causeDataRoad intervention
Server will not bootController, boot sector, file system or configuration; the data is, as a rule, intactDisks mounted in a controlled environment, extraction and service restored without touching the originals
RAID degraded or with two failed disksRAID 5 tolerates one disk; with the second, the volume disappears, and the first had failed weeks earlier without warningArray rebuilt from images, never on the source disks
RansomwareShared folders and servers encryptedScope measured, variant identified, copies and versions analysed, rebuild from the last clean state
Backups that will not restoreMissing volumes, shorter retention than assumed, destination also encryptedRescue of what exists and a backup routine left working and tested
Laptops, workstations and external drivesDeletion, formatting, lost partitions, damaged systemFast action, because on SSDs TRIM reduces the chances within a short time

In a ransomware attack we also tackle the source, in parallel: the entry point, the credentials used and what to close so it does not happen again.

When does a case have to go to a lab?

When there is physical damage. Scratched platters, broken read heads, burnt electronics or a clicking disk require opening in a clean room; handling them outside that environment reduces the odds. DataRoad does not have a clean room and tells you so straight away.

We refer you to partner laboratories and manage the process: preparing the shipment, technical follow-up, checking what comes back and integrating the information into your systems. We do not charge for attempts we know we should not make.

How do we conduct each recovery?

  1. Written assessment — what can be recovered, with what probability and at what price, with no commitment up to that stage.
  2. Image before anything else — we work on the block-level copy; the original media is preserved for another attempt, by us or by others.
  3. Extraction and proof — we open the files to confirm they work, rather than handing over an unchecked list.
  4. Back to production — the information returns to the right place and, if needed, we rebuild the server or volume.
  5. Root cause — we explain what failed and what changes from now on, the step almost everyone skips.

How do you avoid needing this service again?

Every recovery is the price of prevention that did not exist. With IT Unlimited, backups are monitored and put to the test with real restores, and monitoring detects a degrading disk weeks before it stops. Replacing a disk in time costs a small fraction of a recovery.

Questions from those losing data

How quickly do you recover?

A logical failure on a server or RAID is usually resolved the same or the next day; with physical damage and a lab, allow a few days to two weeks. The initial assessment arrives within a few hours.

What price should I expect?

Logical recovery carried out by DataRoad has a predictable cost, quoted after the assessment; a clean room is considerably more expensive and depends on the state of the media. The price is always known before proceeding.

Do you guarantee 100% of the data?

Nobody can honestly guarantee that. With a recent logical failure and the equipment switched off in time, the rate is very high; on an SSD after deletion or a disk that kept running with damaged sectors, it may be partial. We tell you what we expect to recover before accepting.

The ransomware encrypted the backups too. What now?

It happens, and it proves that a copy on the same network is not protection. We look for versions out of the attack's reach, such as cloud retention, snapshots or previous versions, and assess what can be rebuilt from other sources. The backup architecture is then redesigned.

Do you serve private individuals?

No. DataRoad works only with companies; for personal equipment we refer you to specialist laboratories.

Is a contract required?

Yes. This service exists within an IT Unlimited contract; we do not do one-off interventions or sell standalone equipment, and we take full responsibility for the client's environment.

Data recovery is part of DataRoad's managed IT services.

Next step: a frank assessment, before any more attempts

Do not risk any further operations on the equipment. We will tell you clearly whether the case is ours or a lab's and prepare a no-commitment proposal so that this does not happen again.
