No single point of failure: layered redundancy
Redundancy was designed in from the outset. If a component fails, operations carry on and production does not notice.
- High-availability firewalls At the Paris sites, two units in a pair: if one fails, the other takes over immediately.
- Two links, two devices Fibre and 5G on separate devices, connected to both firewalls, so that neither a link failure nor a hardware failure takes a site down.
- Duplicated storage Dual power supplies and RAID in every file server, with replication between the two Paris sites and to the DataRoad datacentre.
- Off-site copies Backups in the DataRoad datacentre, with redundant internet, Starlink and renewable energy.
In practice, the critical systems at the Paris sites no longer have a single point of failure and the data is protected in three locations. It is the same approach we apply to business continuity and disaster recovery.
