In 2020, FREE NOW — the mobility platform previously known in Portugal as Kapten — chose DataRoad - IT Services and Consulting to build the network infrastructure for its Lisbon office. The work covered termination and certification of the CAT6 cabling, the network points at the workstations, labelling of everything in the rack, the wireless access points and full configuration of the solution. For a technology company with intensive digital operations, the requirement was clear: a fast, secure network with no downtime.

Who FREE NOW are
FREE NOW is one of Europe’s largest urban mobility ecosystems, with 700 employees in 26 offices. Its history helps explain the company’s technological demands:
- February 2019 Mytaxi becomes part of a joint venture between BMW and Daimler.
- July 2019 The brand changes to FREE NOW.
- End of 2019 Hive e-scooters and e-bikes are added to the app.
- June 2020 Merger with Kapten: ride-hailing, taxi, e-scooter and bike in a single app.
The network infrastructure, from cable to Wi-Fi
Terminated and certified CAT6 cabling
All CAT6 cables were professionally terminated, tested and certified. Certification is what guarantees that each point delivers the expected performance — not merely that it has a connection.
Network points at the workstations
Outlets were installed at the various workstations, with infrastructure ready for high speed, low latency and consistent performance, as required by a team that works mainly in digital applications.
Labelled rack
Every point was labelled and recorded in the rack. This organisation makes future maintenance easier, shortens diagnosis and allows growth without disorder.
