Well-designed hotel Wi-Fi is not one network: it is at least four — guests, operations, events and devices — separate and secure. When it fails, the contracted internet connection is rarely to blame; the cause is a poorly designed internal network. DataRoad - IT Services and Consulting designs, installs and manages business wireless networks for hotels, so that Wi-Fi shows up in reviews for the right reasons.
Wi-Fi now matters as much as location
A guest will tolerate a firmer pillow or a slow lift. They will not tolerate a work video call dropping in their room or a series that keeps buffering. When it happens, they write about it on Booking, Google or TripAdvisor — often before mentioning breakfast.
It also works the other way round: “excellent internet throughout the hotel” is one of the most frequent phrases in 9 and 10-star reviews.
The right architecture: four networks
- Guests Fast, simple and isolated from everything; the guest in room 204 must never be able to see the reception computer.
- Operations Reception, management, PMS and invoicing; the heart of the hotel, always protected.
- Events and meeting rooms Dedicated capacity for conferences and groups, without taking speed away from the rooms.
- Devices Cameras, electronic locks, TVs and building automation, increasingly common and increasingly targeted by attacks.
This is the architecture we built at LX Arch Hotel, on Rua Augusta, with Wi-Fi 7, video surveillance and full IT management.

Three typical causes of poor Wi-Fi in hotels
- Old buildings Thick walls that block the signal.
- Consumer equipment Home routers and repeaters doing a professional job.
- Patched-together networks A router here, a repeater there, with no design.
The consequences are familiar: rooms at the back with no signal, dropouts between the lobby and the bar, and a reception desk turned into a technical helpline. The fix starts with an on-site coverage survey, room by room, and a network designed around the reality of the building.
How we work with hotels
- Coverage survey — measurements in the building, room by room.
- Design — the four separate networks and the right capacity for each.
- Installation — professional business Wi-Fi equipment, installed without disturbing guests.
- Ongoing management — monitoring and resolution before the problem reaches the reviews; in the Premium 365 plan, monitoring is 24/7.
For management, the result is simple: Wi-Fi stops being an issue. See our managed IT for hotels offering.
Next step: a coverage survey of your hotel
We measure the building and present a no-obligation proposal for a managed network.
