A managed wireless network is business Wi-Fi with a permanent owner: someone watches the network, applies updates, controls access and fixes faults, often before the company notices. It is the difference between owning equipment and having a service.
In short
- Two halves Installing well is half the job; maintaining well is the other half, and it never ends.
- Monitoring The network is followed continuously, with 24/7 monitoring in the Premium 365 plan.
- Cost Fixed and small, compared with the outages and emergencies of the alternative.
Twelve months after installation
On the day it is handed over, any network is flawless. A year later, with nobody looking after it, you find access points with security patches not applied, devices connected without any criteria, the guest network “open just for today” for four months and configurations nobody can explain.
Networks rarely break: they are neglected. And neglect charges interest, first in slowness, then in faults and finally in security incidents.
Five services of a managed wireless network
- Continuous monitoring — an access point that fails at night is detected that night, not by the team on Monday morning; 24/7 monitoring in Premium 365.
- Updates and security — network equipment receives patches just like computers, and someone applies them for you.
- Access management — passwords renewed, guests controlled and unknown devices detected.
- SLA-backed response — response times guaranteed by contract, instead of vague promises.
- Reporting and advice — the company knows the state of its network and when it pays to upgrade it.
Nobody installs an alarm only to switch it off the next day. The network that carries the whole business should not go unwatched either.

Managed or “we’ll see”: the numbers
Without management, every network problem is paid for three times: in the team’s idle time, in the scramble to find someone to fix it and in the emergency rate charged by whoever turns up.
With management, you pay a fixed monthly amount, usually a fraction of the cost of a single serious outage, and problems are dealt with before they grow. It is the same logic as lift or fleet maintenance: nobody debates whether it is worth it, only who to do it with.
How DataRoad manages your wireless network
Managed Wi-Fi is part of the IT Unlimited plans, the monthly service that covers all of the company’s technology, or works as a dedicated network service for those who only want to solve that front. We install a new network or take over the existing one, document everything and, from then on, the network becomes our responsibility. On your side, you get the monthly report and an absence of complaints.
